Diane Chasseresse

Diane Chasseresse goddess of Roman mythology, is represented as a young woman in motion, wearing the crescent moon, her bow and an arrow in her hands. Houdon’s original marble work appeared in 1780 at the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum in Lisbon. During the decade other copies in marble, terracotta or bronze will have been produced, a model of large dimensions is exhibited at the Louvre Museum. The one offered for sale, of old cast iron (nineteenth century) has an original brown / green patina, in good general condition according to its age, to note some deformations on the bow and arrow and a tiny crack at the neck without structural impact. Presence of the Houdon signature on the base.
